Spitz - Sazanami English Translation
70CD Cover
The Song
The Original Lyrics are by Kusano Masmune, the lead singer for Spitz. The translation and subsequent lyrics are purely for educational purposes. Lets face it, what better way to take a look into a foreign culture than trying to understand what they put into their music? Likewise...this is a tool for fans of Spitz who are learning Japanese.
The layout of the translation is as follows: each line is broken down into sentences. Each sentence is written 2 times, 1st: everything is in roomaji, and 2nd: the english translations. (Once hubpages decides to allow other languages...I can put up the actual lyrics and the kana translation). Certain sentences have a 3th line in italics that have a less literal translation where I've taken the liberty of putting what I think the sentence actually means. While it's ambiguous...lets face it...most music put out these days are hard to throughly understand. Likewise, I've bolded every other block for ease of reading.
The Translation
maido kuri kaeshite ha sugu wasurete
Everytime I repeat myself, I soon quickly forget.
jari ketobashite hashiru furui suniikaa de
I kick up pebbles as I run in my old sneakers.
naze tori ni umarezu ni ore ha koko ni iru ?
Why am I here, when the bird hasn’t been born yet?
shimetta minami kaze ga katari hajimeru
The moist southern winds begin to talk to me.
mikuro kara yozora e kokoro mo hiraku
The smallest parts of my heart open for the night sky.
Down from the depths of my hearts, I yearn for the night sky.
tameiki nagaku haite kotae ha hitotsu
But my long winded sighs are my only answer.
koborete ochita chiisa na inochi mou ichido
Once again, my short life seems to have spilled out and fallen from me.
Once again, I feel some of my life slip away.
tsubasa ha nai kedo umi yama koete kimi ni au noyo
I don’t have any wings, but I’d go over the seas and mountains just to meet you.
I can't fly, (cont)
nurui sekai ni akogare sore ni yaburete
I’m worn out from yearning in this indifferent world.
I can't wait any longer to see you again.
togari kirenai mama ni kagami wo sakete
While I still look so unhappy, I’ll avoid looking at the mirror.
While I still feel this depressed, I'll try to avoid thinking about it.
machi ha kyou mo mabushi yo tsuki ga kasumu hodo
The town today is so bright, that it blurs out the moon.
utsutsu ha mitsutsu yume kara samezu mou ichido
Once again, my consciousness can’t wake up from its dream.
Once again, my mind can't stop dreaming about you (a lover most likely).
shi no go no iwan demo yosougai no janpu de kimi ni au no yo
Four out of five say agree as well, I strangely feel like jumping to go meet you.
Most people say that miracles happen, and I like to go out and see you (to see if that opinion is right).
Kirameku sazanami mashita ni kanjiteru
I feel the sparkling ripples underneath me.
yo ga akeru yo
The night is turning to dawn.
tameiki nagaku haite kotae ha hitotsu
My long winded sighs are my only answer.
koborete ochita chiisa na inochi mou ichido
Once again, my short life seems to have spilled out and fallen from me.
nioi ga kasukani ima mo nokotteru kono mune ni mo
There’s a faint smell still left on my chest.
I can still feel your presence.
tsubasa ha nai kedo umi yama koete kimi ni au no yo
I don’t have any wings, but I’d go over the seas and mountains just to meet you.

Some Background
The original lyrics are done by the lead singer of Spitz: Kusano Masamune.
Spitz is a Japanese rock band that formed in 1987 in the wake of many other popular rock bands. At the time, the group felt that they wouldn't be too successful as a group since the rock wave had passed through, so they just wrote songs as they liked. But due to their mysterious lyrics, beautiful compiling of melodies and lyrics, the band gained popularity and momentum. Since their start, they've released many records and have a very dedicated fan base around the world.
Why I Listen To Spitz
I enjoy mostly upbeat (but not overpowering) rock. I like to be at a medium/fast pace and the best songs start out somewhat slow and build up to a climax that feels...like I'm understanding the meaning of life at times. Many Spitz songs are built on this format and are easy to listen to. They don't curse (which I don't mind in some songs), they're easy to listen to, and its just great relaxing music. If you don't understand what I mean in the slow/build up...and would like an English Equivalent: I'd suggest Behind Blue Eyes by The Who and Bleeding Heart Show by The New Pornographers. As for other Spitz songs that I enjoy, they include Hanemono, Hotaru, Momo, Memories, and many many more. If time (and hubpages allow) I'll be putting translations of these songs and more.
